Fitbit Charge 4 Review - Summary

The Fitbit Charge line has been on the market since 2014, but the Fitbit Charge 4 is definitely what we consider the next generation of fitness trackers.

The addition of GPS, Spotify support, Active Zone Minutes and more, have taken this Fitbit model many steps forward, making it one of the best fitness trackers on the market right now.

Style, Battery Life and Setup

Whether you are looking to get the Fitbit Charge 4 Standard Edition or Special Edition, this fitness tracker looks beautiful and sleek.

Both editions have the same features, the only difference is that the Special edition comes with additional woven straps and it is available in a different color.

When you buy the standard edition, you can easily swap out the bands by pressing the two small buttons at the back of the tracker.

The Charge 4 features a greyscale screen that is easy to read. This screen is designed to shut off when it is not being tapped on, this is so battery life can be preserved.

You can easily wake the screen back up by tapping the inductive button on the left side of the tracker.

The tracker is easy to navigate, in fact you can easily swipe up from the clock face to view fitness stats including your steps taken that day, Active Zone Minutes, heart rate, distance covered, calories burned, and so on.

Swiping left from the clock face lets you access various apps such as Spotify, Alarms, Weather, and more.

Swiping down allows you to check your notifications.

The Charge 4 battery is pretty good and lasts several days when GPS is not used.

But even when using GPS, there is an option that allows you to preserve battery life. This is called Dynamic GPS, which lets the Fitbit use your phone’s GPS if you have your phone with you or the Charge 4’s GPS when you are not carrying your phone.

The Charge 4 is water resistant, however it is recommended you dry it up after using it in water or after sweating.

You can easily connect the Charge 4 to the Fitbit app by doing the following:

  1. Open the app
  2. Select “Set Up a Device”
  3. Plug the tracker into its charger
  4. Wait for a smiley face to appear
  5. Follow the instructions in the app to pair it with your phone via Bluetooth and enable notifications.

Fitness and Health Tracking

The Charge 4 tracks your steps, distance, calories burned, and more.

Women can also use the Fitbit app to track their menstrual cycle.

This fitness tracker also features a GPS that allows you to track various activities such as running, walking, bike riding,  asw well as outdoor workouts like kayaking, surfing, and skiing.

When using the tracker while running, this shows your distance and pace on the screen, as well as how long you have been running for.

When you reach fat burn, cardio, or peak zone, it will vibrate to let you know.

The Charge 4 is the first Fitbit device with Active Zone Minutes, which measure how hard you worked during an activity based on your age and resting heart rate.

Sleep Tracking

Would you like to track how much time you spend in each sleep phase? The Fitbit Charge 4 can do that too!

Although sleep tracking was also available with the previous versions of this tracker, the Charge 4 features some sleep tools that were previously only available on the more expensive fitness trackers.

When you wake up, the tracker displays a sleep score to show you how well you have rested.
A sleep score of 90 or above is considered “excellent,” between 80 and 90 is “good,” between 60 and 79 is “fair,” and less than 60 is “poor.”

Spotify, Fitbit Pay, and Notifications

On top of all the features already mentioned, the Charge 4 features the Spotify support, although you must have a Spotify Premium subscription to use the music streaming service on Fitbit.

This feature allows you to browse your recently played songs, browse new music, play, shuffle and so on.

Another new feature to the Charge line is Fitbit Pay, which allows you to pay using your wrist!

Fitbit Pay can be used anywhere that accepts contactless payments.

The Charge 4 can also display notifications coming from your phone. If you use an Android phone, you can send quick replies to texts.

Conclusion

The Fitbit Charge 4 is definitely the next generation tracker of its line.

It is sleek, beautiful and has so many features that can make your day to day fitness related tasks much easier to keep track of.

Right now, the Fitbit Charge 4 is one of the best health and tracking wristbands out there!
