Waterproof Fitbits – Which Tracker Is Water Resistant?

It’s not as easy as it seems to figure out which ones are waterproof Fitbits or water-resistant.

While no Fitbit tracker is fully waterproof, the majority of them are water-resistant to some degree.

The Fitbit Ace 2, Fitbit Versa, Fitbit Charge 3, Fitbit Charge 4, Fitbit Inspire, and Fitbit Ionic are all water-resistant Fitbit devices.

Water exposure is rarely covered by Fitbit warranties, so just how much water the system will handle is crucial.

Fitbit watches aren’t fully waterproof. While any Fitbit is water-resistant to some degree, none of them are suitable for deep-sea diving.

Let’s get the tech terms out of the way before we talk about how water-resistant Fitbits are.

The majority of devices have an IP (Ingress Protection) number, which indicates how waterproof they are. Anything with an IPX5 or IPX6 rating is water-resistant (sweat, fog, etc.) but not waterproof (full immersion, for example).

Fitbit, on the other hand, is noteworthy for not assigning official IP scores to any of their devices. As a result, it’s difficult to say how water-resistant all of their timepieces are.

Another thing to keep in mind: we’re talking about the Fitbit itself, not the bands, which can be rubber and water resistant, or cloth or metal and not do well when wet.

Waterproof Fitbits listed in this article:

  • Fitbit Versa
  • Fitbit Charge 3
  • Fitbit Inspire
  • Fitbit Ionic
  • Fitbit Ace 2
  • Fitbit Versa
  • Fitbit Charge 3
  • Fitbit Inspire
  • Fitbit Ionic

Each Fitbit’s water resistance:

At depths of up to 50 metres, the Fitbit Ace 2, Fitbit Versa, Fitbit Charge 3, Fitbit Inspire, and Fitbit Ionic can be used. When you get out of the pool, bath, or ocean, just dry it off because water will hinder it from properly testing the biometrics.

Versa Lite by FitBit

The FitBit Versa can handle water pressure of up to 50 metres.

Older Fitbit versions, such as those from the Alpha generation or earlier, are not marked as water-resistant on Fitbit’s support site and are unable to survive submersion.

The Fitbit Ace, one of the more recent versions, is listed as “shower-proof,” but it is not rated for submersion, so keep it away from the pool.

Is The Fitbit Charge 4 Waterproof?

The Fitbit Charge 4 is a great health and fitness tracker that has received many positive reviews throughout the years, but Is The Fitbit Charge 4 Waterproof?

Fitbit Charge 4 Open Water Swimming

Open water swimming is a discipline that takes place in open oceans, lakes, and rivers.

Charge 4 is a fitness tracker that is water resistant up to 50M. This means that the tracker can be worn when doing open water swimming.

However, keep in mind that there are certain bands materials that are not made for swimming, for example you should avoid wearing the woven band if you are planning on getting your Fitbit Charge 4 wet.

Despite the device being water resistant, Fitbit recommend users to dry the band straight after wearing the tracker while swimming or showering.

They also recommend not to wear the Fitbit Charge 4 in a hot tub or sauna.

Can I Shower With My Fitbit Charge 4?

Yes, as mentioned above the device is water resistant up to 50M, so wearing this health and fitness tracker while taking a shower is perfectly fine.

Can I Swim In Deep Water With My Fitbit Device?

The tracker is only water resistant to up to 50M

Is The Fitbit Charge 4 Waterproof or Water Resistant?

It is actually against international laws to use the word waterproof with any electronic or mechanical device. The correct term is “water resistant”.

When something is said to be waterproof, it means that it will be able to cope with any type of water ingress, even beyond 50M. A watch or any other electronic device can never be advertised as waterproof.

So yes, the Fitbit Charge 4 is water resistant, not waterproof. But you won’t find any waterproof fitness trackers out there.

Fitbit Charge 4 VS Charge 3: Which One Is Right For You?

The Fitbit Charge 3 and the Fitbit Charge 4 have been on the market for quite a while now and they both have been highly rated. But which one should you choose? In this Fitbit Charge 4 vs Charge 3 review we are going to list what the differences are, so that you can easily pick the right tracker for your needs.

The Fitbit Charge 3 was launched in 2019 and the Charge 4 in 2020. Although they look pretty much identical, the Charge 4 has some additional features that made it well worth for some people to upgrade their device. One of these features is the GPS, which allows you to track all activities such as walks, runs, swims, bike rides and more.

Cost:

When these devices were first launched they were given the same price range, however the Fitbit Charge 4 is now cheaper than the Charge 3.

Given that the Charge 4 has a number of new features at a cheaper price than the Charge 3, the cost alone makes the Charge 4 the clear winner!

Design:

Look-wise both trackers look very similar, though the Fitbit Charge 3 has a case made from aluminum, while the Charge 4’s is made from plastic resin.

Weight-wise the Charge 3 weighs 29 grams, whereas the Charge 4 weighs 30 grams.

Both trackers offer different colored bands that can be swapped around.

Battery:

Both devices have a battery that lasts around 7 days, though the Fitbit Charge 4 will last 5 hours if the GPS is constantly on.

Features:

Both fitness trackers notify you of incoming texts and phone calls, while Spotify control is only available with the Fitbit Charge 4.

Both devices feature Fitbit Pay, however this feature is only available with the Charge 3 special edition, whereas when you buy a Fitbit Charge 4, you get Fitbit Pay even if you have bought the standard version of the device.

The Fitbit Charge 4 has full on-board GPS, which is not available on the Charge 3. However, they both offer automatic workout detection.
Both have heart-rate monitoring and also SpO2 sensor.

Both the Charge 3 and Charge 4 have a mindfulness app that will lead you through a deep breathing exercise if you really feel stressed out.

They also provide sleep tracking.

Fitbit Charge 4 vs Charge 3: Who Is The Winner?

We personally recommend the Fitbit Charge 4 as you get to have an upgraded device at a cheaper price.

They both are outstanding health and fitness trackers which are very similar in look and features, but having the option to use the GPS at no extra cost is definitely something that is nice to have.

On the plus size, you get to use Fitbit Pay even if purchasing the standard Charge 4, rather than having to pay more for a Charge 3 special edition.
